Diode Laser Conjunctiva Thermo-therapy and Topical Mitomyocin-c in Treatment of Two patients with Ocular Surface Squamous Neoplasia

Abstract

Objective: Treatment approach of pulse dosing topical mitomycin-c; A prior tran- conjunctival thermo-therapy in Ocular surface squamous neoplasia. Design: Cases reports: Two patients with histological evidence of ocular surface squamous neoplasia (OSSN) of conjunctiva and cornea were diagnosed by tumor biopsy and clinical evidences. The patient underwent to trans conjunctival thermotherapy with supplemental of topical mitomycin-c instillation every other weeks for four cycle. Results: The therapeutic outcome of the first 75- year old female with extensive Ocular surface squamous neoplasia treated with Laser Conjunctiva thermo-therapy and topical mitomyocin-c showed disease free within the next four years but the process failed for the other case who was an 80-year old female. The failed case refused to go to a more advanced medical center for possible tumor excision and supplemental chemotherapy. So, the additional four cycle pulse mitomycin-c showed regression. Recurrence after 6 months discontinuation of topical mitomycin-c in spite of surgical excision plus Mitomycin –c doesn't show permanent eradication. Conclusions: The effectiveness of topical 0.02% mitomycin-c accompanied by conjunctiva thermo-therapy in one case who had lesser than 3 mm thickness versus of the failed in the other case which have more than 3mm remains to understand the tumor characteristic investigation in more cases.
